SOMETHING SPECIAL!!The Bankhead Tapes – Bill Powrie: Button accordionist Bill Powrie (1931 – 1980 ) is less well-known than either his father Will or his famous brother Ian, however all those who heard him play and in particular his fellow professionals, held him in very high regards for his playing ability. Many years later these tapes have been unearthed. Now carefully restored they offer for the first time, a fascinating insight into the popular tunes of the day and stand testimony to the outstanding talent of Bill and his famous father Will. £11.25 (£12.50 for first time customers)

CD: Blazin’ Fiddles Live – 5 Stars. Reviewed for Scotland on Sunday by Norman Chalmers
Playing to an enthusiastic and understanding audience in Moidart's Glenuig Hall, this is the five-fiddle-fronted band at its best. Rich harmony, aggressive rhythm, subtle dynamics and sensitive phrasing, on the solid bedrock of Marc Clements and Andy Thorburn on imaginative guitar and keys, this is moving music from Scotland's great ambassadors of the centuries-old Scots tradition. Changing direction as tightly as a flock of birds, their reels can take the breath away. www.scotsman.com

Live Review: Scots Trad Music Awards and Gala Concert, Nevis Centre Fort William 1st December 2007.
The Awards Concert on Saturday went well. The multi-purpose Nevis Centre was again decked out in finery and beautifully lit - with the main body of the hall housing fifty 6' round white damask-covered tables surrounded by gilt red plush chairs. It looked really gorgeous with the tall vases of lilies, glittering wine & glasses and, boxes of Terry's 'all gold' chocolates, the line-up of shiny silver thistle-shaped trophies and the big screens either side of the stage all combined to make it look like a very special occasion. Then of course, there were lots of snazzily dressed folkies including quite a few Foot Stompers:) The show kicked off with the Holywood film-style fanfare and the searchlights criss-crossing the hall, then the lights went up to reveal the The Unusual Suspects on stage who then launched into a blistering set. With a front row of David Milligan on piano, Anna Massie, Catriona MacDonald, Shona Mooney, Alasdair White on fiddles, Mairerad Green & Calum MaCrimmon on bagpipes and Corrina Hewat on harp and a great brass and percussion section they made an immediate impact. From the Unusual Suspects through to the finale with The Inverness Gaelic Choir, it was a 4 hour show (including an interval) but it didn’t feel like that at least to me (but I had one of the plush seats:). I enjoyed all of it; comperes Stuart and Mary Ann were great as were the wonderful Hall of Fame inductees. Funny to hear Sheila Stewart complaining they had got her age wrong and that she was 2 years older!........Elizabeth, The Foot Stompin Discussion Forum

The winners of the 2007 Scots Trad Music Awards were announced at a glittering awards ceremony at the Nevis Centre in Fort William. Over the last two months, members of the public have been voting for a range of different categories including Album and Composer of the Year to best community project.

Scotland's Music with Phil Cunningham
That programme was simply wonderful. Karine Polwart and John Martyn feature among my favourite musicians, so it was a treat in so many ways. I particularly enjoy the geographical breadth of the programme, reaching Shetland, Fingal’s Cave, Aberdeenshire, the Borders, Glasgow, etc, etc. And it manages these regional music transitions naturally and effortlessly. Top quality stuff, in my view.

Vicky Bar HAMILTON (the Original) a Reunion
..After a great session in Bundoran on thursday,4 hours sleep,an epic bus chase across N.Ireland and a jam on the M8 I didnt know if I was up to it. Whit a Laugh!! Swapin shoes with Siobhan Miller so she could step dance in a crowd too high and bevvied for much sensible tune making lifted the thing up. Great songs about mining, false lovers ,growing peaches and Lanarkshire made it a true ceilidh. Arthur Johnstone leading the whole pub in a roof liftin "Wild Mountain thyme" made the whole thing magic..

Save Brampton Live Festival - Urgent help needed
Brampton Live Festival has been thrown into doubt as Carlisle City
Council have targeted it as one of a range of proposals to make cuts in
their overall budget next year. The proposal suggests that they are
considering cutting two thirds of their support in 2008 and the
remaining third the following year. Without this funding the festival
may not go ahead after 14 years and effectively come to an end…Online petition at http://www.bramptonlive.net
