Sangstream is an Edinburgh-based Scots folk choir. It is open to all, and meets once a week (during school terms) on Thursday evenings from 7-9 pm, at the Boroughmuir High School in Viewforth
Sangstream run a Summer School made up of weekly evening classes to encourage and foster traditional singing. These tutor-led singing sessions in Edinburgh are not just for Sangstream members - they are open to anyone on a pay-as-you-go basis or as a flat fee for all 7 weeks. So tell & bring along friends, relatives, members of other singing groups etc.
The Summer School be following the general Sangstream model of predominantly (but not solely) Scots traditional songs sung in a group context. But also expect fun warm-ups!
Sangstream is kept busy with invitations to perform at community events, song festivals and more formal performances. Over the past few years we have sung at the Coldstream, Arran and Killin Folk Festivals, at St Giles, the French Institute in Edinburgh, at the Museum of Scotland, Corstorphine Fair, and as part of Edinburgh's story telling festival. If you would like us to sing at your event, please contact us.
Sangstream aims to be:
a friendly and fun place open to everyone who has an interest in group singing to take part and to develop their skills with the help of an experienced singer; a group which provides the opportunity for people to learn about and to share Scots songs and traditions; a group which can carry these songs out into the wider community.
