Just Singin' community singing group welcomes men and women of all ages to its weekly tutor-led traditional song workshops, including members from as far afield as Enochdu and Meikleour. The group meets on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at The Birnam Institute, Birnam, where the workshops are led in a fun and relaxed atmosphere by Kirriemuir-based, renowned traditional singer Christine Kydd. The group also occasionally invites guest tutors and over the past four years or so these have included Sylvia Barnes, Steve Byrne, Barbara Dymock, Claire Hewitt, Maureen Jelks, Jim Malcolm, John Moran, Rod Paterson, Sheila Stewart and Hans Theesinck. There is no solo singing, sheet music or any pressure to perform at Just Singin', however the group does take songs out to the community from time to time and has been pleased to take part in Kirkmichael's Robert Petrie concert and the Niel Gow celebrations in Dunkeld and Birnam, amongst other events. All are welcome to join, the only qualification an enjoyment of singing. Fees for the eight week term are £30, concession £25; occasional visitors £6, concession £5 per evening.
