    Fèis an Earraich

    Fèis an Earraich
    Area
    Skye and Lochalsh

    2008: 24th - 28th March 2008

    Information
After an absence of eight years, Feis an Earraich returns to its “birthplace” of Plockton this year.  Running from 24th – 28th March [the first week of the Easter holiday], the Feis welcomes applications from youngsters throughout Skye and Lochalsh and further afield, for a fun-packed week of traditional Gaelic music, song, dance.  Arts and Crafts and Shinty are also on offer, and there is a packed evening programme for the participants.

The tutor line-up includes husband and wife team, Findlay Napier and Gillian Frame who were members of leading traditional band Back of the Moon, ace-accordionist John Carmichael [Ikey], Jennifer Port – clàrsach,Hugh Marwick – whistle, and Catriona Lexy Campbell of Plockton teaching Gaelic Drama.  Other local tutors include Andrew MacPherson, Angus Nicolson, Hector Henderson, Ronan Martin, Kathleen Graham, Fiona MacAskill and Iain Ruairi Finlayson.

There are some great chances coming up for the Feis teenagers as we will be visiting the Armagh Pipers, Co. Armagh later this year and have just received an invitation to a Folk-Dance Festival in Germany in June 2009.  The exchange with Na Pìobairean ArdMhacha was founded in 2000 and we have formed strong friendships with them.  One of their “FPs” – Sheila Rooney will be returning to Feis an Earraich to tutor whistle and bodhran this year.

Auditions for “Ceilear” – the Skye and Lochalsh Cèilidh Trail – will also be held during Feis week.
