| Scottish Internet Radio aims to provide a serious and credible alternative to traditional terrestrial radio. They broadcast a selection of pre-recorded programmes which will provide listeners from all over the globe with the opportunity to listen to a variety of music genres, including traditional and modern Scottish music. They will provide a news service that will keep Scots living abroad and those with an interest in Scottish affairs, updated with all the current political events that are affecting Scotland today. The main focus of the station will be the promotion of Scottish culture and language and will broadcast programmes in both English and Gaelic. The station will also run a unique online Gaelic learning program, and in association with Sabhal Mor Ostaig the Gaelic collage located on the Isle of Skye we will provide listeners with an opportunity to learn our native language. Scottish Internet Radio we acknowledge the importance of retaining and promoting the Gaelic language at home and abroad, and are fully committed to this cause, and it is hoped that by offering listeners the chance to learn Gaelic, they can increase the number of speakers and ensure the continuation of Gaelic as a family and community language. | Barra and Vatersay Community Radio has gone live! You can access this online radio station by going to http://www.isleofbarra.com . A full schedule of programming is available on the website. If you would like to request any music or say hello, pop them an e mail at ceolrcb@yahoo.co.uk! Barra and Vatersay are the Southernmost inhabited islands of the Outer Hebrides. Barra is the larger of the two islands lying to the North of Vatersay, being approximately 8 miles long and 5 miles across. The main port and focus of population on Barra is Castlebay, which is on the South of the island. Vatersay lies to the south of Barra facing Castlebay across the Sound of Vatersay. Overall it is approximately three miles by three, but so deeply indented by the sea from the east and west that only a narrow strip of machair, or grassland and dunes, prevents it becoming two separate islands.
