The Festival provides an opportunity for all, especially our youngsters, to witness the vibrancy of the tongue, music andstories of this North- east neuk, and for performers to participate in the preservation of this heritage.
The Doric Festival: • Celebrates the language, song, music and traditions of the North-east through performances, drama, workshops an exhibitions. • Provides a platform for experienced performers and for aspiring singers, writers, musicians and players . • Actively encourages communities all over the Doric-speaking areas to organise their own events. • Provides an educational window on the heritage of the North-east for the newcomer and resident alike. • Also encourages cultural development to ensure that this unique heritage continues as a living tradition
2008: 26th September - 12th October 2008: Now in its fourteenth year, The Doric Festival is unique in its involvement of local communities across the North-east in celebrating our language, music and traditions.
Guests include: The Fochabers Fiddlers, a dynamic group of young fiddlers with some toe-tapping arrangements of North-east music by their conductor, James Alexander
Geordie Murison, an outstanding traditional singer who has just won the prestigous Bothy Ballad King at the annual Elgin Competition.
Barbara-Ann Burnett, the North-east's own, who has established herself as one of Scotland's finest unaccompanied singers.
