    The Howe Festival

    2008: Awaiting information

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2007: – 9th to 11th November 2007

The 4th year of the Howe Festival sees music, song and craft hits the Mearns. From
tall tales to stamping feet the Mearns will reverberate to the talents of writers, visual
artists, traditional musicians and singer songwriters.
This year’s family friendly festival hosts the famous North East writer Charlie Allan
sharing his writing talents through his bothy ballads and witty repartee.
Traditional piping has a new twist with inspirational female piper Lillian Nicolson in a
piping session to tease out the undiscovered talents of the Mearns folk. A new local
piping group will be established from the introductory session.
Strong traditions flow through ‘the howe’ with traditional singing workshops with
Christine Kydd one of Scotland’s finest traditional singer/songwriters. Local talent can
join in with ‘the howe’ informal traditional music session at Drumlithie Hotel.
Participants can bring their instruments and jam with Nigel Jelks, Gordon Ewan, and
Susie Malcolm. Or bring a song to share with traditional music talents Christine Kydd
    and Barbara Dymock (of Sinsheen).
