A brilliant 'core' Ceilidh Weekend in Kirkwall plus 'fringe events.
Visitors are encouraged to try out a range of dance styles at the Orkney Traditional Dance Association’s ceilidh weekend in Kirkwall.
2008: 9th - 13th April 2008. You can choose Scottish Country, Ballroom and Old Time so you can progress throughout the weekend or find a level that suits your interest. There is also Shetland dance, Folk dance, Scandinavian dance and Shetland Quadrilles and Lancers. Friday morning is the “Orkney Morning” where you can learn the Orkney style of Lancers, Quadrilles and Eightsome reel with local tutors Fringe events take place throughout Orkney in the lead up to the event.
The ‘core’ Ceilidh Weekend will take place in and around the Royal Borough of Kirkwall from Friday 11th until Sunday 13th April 2008 – but there are “Fringe Events” in Rousay and Hoy on 9th and 10th April 2008 which gives you that 5 very different dancing days. There is so much for you to experience in going to these two different islands to join in their dancing and hospitality – you will experience a warm welcome and a very special kind of hospitality. The ferry journeys will be a unique experience for anyone who has not travelled to a dance in this way – and the journeys are only around 30 minutes on the sea.
