    Wintering Out

by Simon Bradley & Luke Plumb

In these days of megabytes, knobbage and layerage, it's often easy to lose sight of what this music is all about. However in "Wintering Out", Simon Bradley and Luke Plumb strive to capture the soul and excitement of musical interplay. The essence of this beautiful music is its raw energy and in this live recording, Simon and Luke have retained as much of that energy as is humanly possible.............Hamish Moore.

Simon Bradley: fiddles & vocal drones
Luke Plumb: bouzoukie & vocal drones
    James MacKintosh: percussion

    Media Reviews

savouring and coaxing out the subtlest of shifting nuances within an expertly concocted selection of Scottish, Irish and Spanish material..*****

The title, along with the sound, of a new duo album from fiddler Simon Bradley and Shooglenifty multi- instrumentalist Luke Plumb (here exclusively playing bouzouki) is deliciously suggestive of cosying up to a roaring fire, and banishing the cold blow and rainy night outside by getting stuck right into a long, unhurried string of tunes.
With Bradley having been raised in Lancashire and Scotland, and now a member of Asturian band Llan de Cubel, while Plumb came to traditional music and thence to Edinburgh via his birthplace of Tasmania, each has a wealth of different influences at his fingertips.
As they take their own sweet time exploring, savouring and coaxing out the subtlest of shifting nuances within an expertly concocted selection of Scottish, Irish and Spanish material, this breadth of perspective enriches the hypnotic vitality of their interplay yet further.

This is a tremendous first album of beautifully paced instrumental music from two of the finest young contemporary traditionalists.

Brought up playing Irish music in the Midlands (his father is from Donegal), Bradley’s fluent fiddle has graced the Edinburgh scene for years, though he now travels with one of Spain’s leading bands, Llan de Cubell. Plucked from relative obscurity in Tasmania, Plumb’s exceptional skills on the mandolin/bouzouki are now heard worldwide in globe-trotting Scots outfit Shooglenifty. This is a tremendous first album of beautifully paced instrumental music from two of the finest young contemporary traditionalists..........Norman Chalmers
