    Welcome to Dun Vegas

Another gem from the wonderfully inventive Peatbog Faeries whose fantastic brand of celtic fusion music has the knack of compelling whole arenas full of people to ecstatically jump up and and down.

According to the sleeve, this album was recorded in a cottage on the banks of Pool Roag near Dunvegan, Isle of Skye. The title track "Welcome to Dun Vegas" was recorded at 4am after a session in the Dunvegan Hotel. Producer Calum MacLean noticed the cooker clock making an interesting rhythm se he recorded it, tampered with it and asked the band to come up with a tune.

This new CD picks up the mantle of the last CD and runs with it taking the band to a whole new level.

I loved the Peatbogs last CD 'Faerie Stories' with its strong grooves, excellent melodies and futeristic sounds. This new CD picks up the mantle of the last CD and runs with it taking the band to a whole new level. They've added vocals to their already strong lineup of drums, pipes, fiddle, guitar, bass and keyboard and the vocals are used in unexpected ways with a bendy version of gaelic song 'Fear Eile'. Ian Copeland's drumming on this CD is immense (as usual) as is his production jointly with Calum MacLean. Buy this CD and hear the future.

THE largely Skye-based Peatbog Faeries recorded their third album over a three month stay in a cottage near Dunvegan, which is the source of the punning title. Traditional-sounding melodies from fiddler Roddy Neilson and piper Peter Morrison unfold over drummer Iain Copeland’s hi-tech grooves and richly layered guitar, keyboard and bass accompaniments from Tom Salter, Leighton Jones and Innes Hutton. They add vocal contributions to the mix for the first time on this disc (including spoken word on Teuchstar), but fairly unconventional ones. Morrison remains the main composer, but they throw in a couple of traditional tunes as well.

Party animals and sufferers of restless leg syndrome will be in seventh heaven. You can almost smell the Laphroag seeping out of your hi-fi.
