In October 2005 fiddler Karen Steven underwent surgery in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following a brain haemorrhage. Karen has made a full recovery and has made this fine CD as a fundraiser for the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Neurosurgery Ward as a thank you for all the great care and treatment she received at that difficult time.
The CD features 11 tracks of Karen on fiddle and Pete MacCallum on guitar. There are 40 tunes on the album, mostly old Highland tunes, some Cape Breton, some Irish and some local contemporary.
"The playing of Cape Breton Music won't die in Scotland with this lovely playing. She is a 'must hear.' It all without a doubt is Magic"...Jerry Holland.
"Soul Fiddle. A new album from Karen Steven is something to look forward to; lots of variety combined with great integrity and knowledge of the tradition; and great soulful playing. Wonderful, thoughtful accompaniment by Pete MacCallum add immense enjoyment to the mix. A rare treat!"...Alasdair Fraser.
