    Troots

    by Shooglenifty

This CD was recorded between tours of Australia, Europe and the USA in 2006 and is the bands fifth studio album. You can always be sure of fantastic musicianship from the Shoogles and Troots is another fine example of their art. Many of the tunes are compositions of the band members, but there’s also an adaptation of a 200 year-old Scottish pipe tune, a folk song from the Balkans and a totally amazing track featuring the extraordinary vocals of North American Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq Gillis.

Malcolm Crosbie:  acoustic & electric guitars
    Angus R. Grant:   fiddle
    Garry Finlayson:   5 string banjo
Quee MacArthur:  bass guitar, double bass
    James MacIntosh: drums, percussion
    Luke Plumb:           mandolin, bouzoukie

    Media Reviews

The globetrotting Scots band demonstrate their musical ability and imagination in another album packed with their trademark melodic grooves.

The globetrotting Scots band demonstrate their musical ability and imagination in another album packed with their trademark melodic grooves.

A tune written in the Antipodes ('Excess Baggage') is arrestingly graced by an Inuk throat singer who sang with the band in the Yukon, while a Balkan horo rises in the middle of a set and 'Loreen's Tune' revels in the gentle waltzy banjo and fiddle of some Appalachian valley.

Troots once again proves Shooglenifty's talent for music rooted in home traditions but with proven international appeal...........Norman Chalmers
