This 'Rough Guide' to Scotland's music might be described today as 'Celtic music', a description that can be helpful as a signpost, yet at the same time cause some people to bypass some of the individiual components. While taking this individual modern 'Celtic' approach to the album, I would encourage you to dig deeper into the sources of any of the music here that touches you. I hope this music will take you in many directions, not least in to the past, not because the roots of the music are necessarily better or more enjoyable than that of the present, but more because an understanding of where we come from adds colour to the present.
