The Bankhead Tapes
by
Bill Powrie
Bill Powrie: Button accordionist Bill Powrie (1931 – 1980 ) is less well-known than either his father Will or his famous brother Ian, however all those who heard him play and in particular his fellow professionals, held him in very high regards for his playing ability. The "Bankhead Tapes" is a musical greeting card with a difference, recorded by Bill Powrie in the 1950s with a simple home tape recorder. Bill would then send them to friends in USA. Many years later these tapes have been unearthed. Now carefully restored they offer for the first time, a fascinating insight into the popular tunes of the day and stand testimony to the outstanding talent of Bill and his famous father Will.
