    Take Note

    by Swingin' Fiddles

A couple of Shetland fiddlers and a piano! The three teens follow the local traditions across both traditional and contemporary tunes, with a couple of neat wee 'swing' tracks thrown in as you might expect from their name. Look out for them at a festival near you. Their lively approach to music has taken them to Norway, America, Canada, Ireland and several British festivals in the two years they've been together. Recently described as "A whole new generation of Shetland Music".

Laura Lockyer - Fiddle ;Maggie Adamson - Fiddle; Astryd Jamieson - Piano; with Brian Nicholson - Guitar.

Listen to this album often, great playing from such a young band,(excluding Mr Nicholson of course) but then again, that's Shetland for you, when I hear playing of this calibre it reassures me that traditional music from the Northern Isles and beyond, is in very safe hands indeed. More power to your fiddlin' elbows.
    Swingin' Fiddles - Take Note

I really like this CD and I play it a lot. Swingin’ Fiddles play an interesting mix of swingy fiddle tunes which sit well alongside the more traditional Shetland tunes. The CD has a good ‘live’ feeling about it although not recorded at a concert. The two fiddlers (Laura and Maggie), although still young, play well together with really good understanding. If you like a clear Shetland style piano accompaniment (which I do) Astryd shines at this on Take Note. This is the young band’s first CD. With a few more years of playing experience they should be up there with Shetland’s top bands.
