Fionnar - Sgoil Roc: A new EP containing 3 original songs by the young singing group from the Highlands. ‘”Sgoil Roc” teamed the teenage Gaelic vocal harmony group “Fionnar” with professional Gaelic writers and musicians who guided them through the creative process as they wrote their own contemporary Gaelic songs. The resulting CD of 3 new songs was launched with a live performance at the Nòs Òg concert at Eden Court in June 2009
Fionnar are: Fiona Bowie, Stephanie Tinney, Caitlinn and Rhiannon Cameron, Catriona gibb, Mairi Jo Campbell, Eilidh Ramsay.
Musicians: Irvin Duguid (keyboards & Hammond), Jim Drummond (drums). John Goldie (guitar), Ed McFarlane (bass).
The EP was produced by Irvin Duguid and arranged by Irvin duguid and Mod Gold Medallist Fiona J Mackenzie.
The Sgoil Roc project aims to boost confidence amongst Gaelic speaking teenagers and to demonstrate to them that they can produce a quality product in Gaelic which has a wide appeal amongst their peer group. It is hoped that their example will inspire other like minded teenagers to do the same and help in showing that Gaelic as a language and culture is relevant in the 21st Century to teenagers as well as the older generations.
