Sixteen tracks of Scottish musical tradition and a story, displaying fiddle, pipes, Gaelic song, Scots songs and ballads, and an amazing tune set on the Jew’s harp. The recordings were collected over the last fifty years and have been held in the archives of the School of Scottish Studies. Among the artists featured are such notables as Lizzie Higgins, P/M Robert Brown, James Campbell, and Hector MacAndrew. Collectors of this important material and whose work is represented on this CD include Calum MacLean, Hamish Henderson, Morag MacLeod, Thorkild Knudsen and Peter Cooke.
The CDs in this Scottish Tradition Series fulfill many functions are used in teaching, research, broadcasting (radio, television and film) and have provided inspiration for singers, storytellers and instrumentalists both in Scotland and overseas.
