......often supported by instruments ranging from acoustic guitar to piano and electric bass: even a cello and bouzouki get in there, too. Chris's mastery of the instrument - or instruments, as he plays the small pipes, too - is crisp, professional and frequently stunning, whether on his today-style multi-instrumentals or his more trad numbers. But then, perhaps that's hardly surprising from someone who started piping at six and composing at nine: the jig "Inspiration" in his set "The Whisky Boeys" being one of his under-10 works. A consistent prize-winner - Argyllshire Gathering, Cowal, Northern Meeting - the lad from West Lothian looks set for a dazzling future!
The strathspeys are played at a perfect speed, with a strong Scottish snap, and lead beautifully into the reels.
My favorite track on Quantum Leap has to be the solo strathspey/reel set, featuring four tunes named for people, "Rebecca's Strathspey," "Andy Armstrong's Strathspey," "Mrs. Mary Kerr," and "Mr. Jim Petticrew." I would love to know who these people are, and how Armstrong came to name such good tunes after them. Chris Armstrong is one of the most talented pipe players I have ever heard. This one of my most played CD's. I never get tired of listening to this amazing guy.
Fantastic Jimbo
I got this before either of the other two but it inspired me to get both and the book. He is a brilliant young player and all should take inspiration from him!
Quantum Leap Dave Longbotham
This cd made me go straight out and buy his book!
Great fun to listen to, the tunes are well executed and lovely to lose yourself in.
This is by far his best work.
