Foot Stompin' were delighted to be given the opportunity to stock a set of newly remastered CDs featuring the work of legendary accordionist and dance band leader Jimmy Shand.
Sir Jimmy Shand M.B.E M.A. was born in the small Scottish coastal town of East Wemyss on 28th January 1908 and died on 23rd December 2000. Without question, Jimmy was Scotland's most famous band leader of recent times and will have an enduring reputation as an acclaimed button-key accordionist, composer and ambassador of Scottish music and dance. In addition to his knighthood presented belatedly in 1998, his honours included being made a Freeman of North-East Fife and a Freeman of Fife.
It is his contribution to music however which brought him his real fame and he was even awarded a Golden Disc in 1978 for his albums which included titles such as "The Bluebell Polka", which was a big seller. A regular performer for the Queen at Balmoral and Windsor Castle, he was responsible also for a vast number of recordings, radio and TV appearances.
