One of the most eagerly awaited Shetland albums of recent years is this one from fiddler Brian Gear and pianist Violet Tulloch. Bryan and Violet have appeared on many compilation CDs but this is the first time that fans and friends will be able to appreciate a full 15 tracks. Kebister Head was named after a tune composed by Bryan’s late grandfather Bobby Peterson, a fiddler who had a significant influence on his playing. Bryan, a student of the late great Willie Hunter, Brian has grown to embody much of the great man himself and it's probably the greatest accolade that many prominent Shetland musicians now recognise him as Willie's worthy successor in the field of Shetland traditional fiddle music. Violet has become internationally acclaimed for her truly individual style of piano accompaniment, having 'backed' legendary names such as Tom Anderson of course and Aly Bain.
The tracks on Kebister Head reflect Bryan’s love of all good traditional styles and tunes, from Shetland through to Canadian reels, hornpipes and of course waltzes. Guesting on the CD is Jack Robertson on double bass and guitar. Less well known outside Shetland he is an extremely popular musician who has appeared in many concerts and dances at home.
