‘So much has been written about John Davie Burgess that it may now seem inappropriate and inadequate to add yet more words in tribute to such a great man. This album, therefore, uses few words and, instead, seeks to let the music and the pictures speak for themselves. The tracks are examples of John’s immense piping skills, which begin with probably the first recording ever made of him in 1951. It was through his involvement with Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band that he moved to the Scottish Highlands, married Shiela  MacRae Ross from Alness in 1966 and settled in Ross-shire where he enjoyed a fulfilling family life. The accompanying 12 page booklet has many photographs which portray his childhood, piping competitions, his time at Edinburgh Castle with Pipe Major Willie Ross, his years of service with the Cameron Highlanders, Edinburgh City Police and his time in Ross-shire..........
John D was very much a ‘one-off’ and he will be long remembered as not only one of the greatest pipers of all time, but also a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and irresistably likeable character. His death on 29th June 2005 filled us all with a real sense of loss, and we hope that this album will help, albeit modestly, to preserve his memory in a tangible way.’
