    Ian McCalman - McCalman Singular

    by McCalmans
Ian McCalman's talents as leader of the massively popular trio The McCalmans are well-known. He is a fine singer, harmoniser and hilarious raconteur, and an evening spent at a McCalman's concert is guaranteed to be a great night out. What is not so well known about Ian McCalman is his great ability as a song writer.  On this album there are fourteen of them; but only one of them sung by Ian and one by the McCalmans. The others have been given a new interpretation by some of his well known musical friends including Dick Gaughan, Barbara Dickson and Isla Sinclair.

    Media Reviews

A mixture of Ian’s songs, both comic and touching.

Songs by Ian, Sung by Friends, reads the subtitle, and interesting friends they are. Ian McCalman was determined not to make a solo album, but eventually agreed to having his songs interpreted by other singers. And so we have Dick Gaughan, Jim Malcolm, Sheena Wellington, Barbara Dickson, Allan Taylor, Mike Whellans, Isla St Clair and The Sangsters lending their voices to a mixture of Ian’s songs, both comic and touching. He sings two himself, gives another to his niece and one to The McCalmans, while two departed friends, Derek Moffat and Davy Steele, are both featured via older recordings.

    Kenny Mathieson, The Scotsman
