Comprising 80% self-penned material, it’s a collection rich in dualities and contrasts – fire and ice, drama and understatement, dreaminess and astringency, complexity and directness – united around the velvety smoulder of her voice. “Roots-pop” would be the narrowest bracket for Macleod’s ambitiously free-ranging sound. Yet another distinguished guest-list, headed by Danny Thompson on double bass, also includes Grammy-winning US harmonica ace Sugar Blue, adds up to a big, bountiful box of musical colours, but while she’s unafraid of grandeur, Macleod handles them throughout with sure-handed control.......Sue Wilson, The Herald

Marrying poignant, darkly piquant songwriting with a creamily curvaceous voice that ranged the full gamut from velvety intimacy to majestic, rafter-rattling intensity
Not folk, but certainly Scottish. Heather writes and sings songs with a bluesy jazzy slant. Six of the ten here are her own. Slick and stylish, with a ballady feel, some brisk, some sad, but all excellent vehicles for Heather’s bold voice. “Marrying poignant, darkly piquant songwriting with a creamily curvaceous voice that ranged the full gamut from velvety intimacy to majestic, rafter-rattling intensity”.
