    Colours of Lichen

    by The Cast

The Cast have proven that subtlety and restraint are weapons that, when used correctly, are a lethal combination. A regal grace pervades their work and an eye for creating moods and melodic textures remains their ace card. Mairi Campbell is lovely singer and one of the few traditional musicians to play viola as well as fiddle. This is a very thoughtful well-balanced album and one which will often find its way onto the CD player. Their version of Auld Lang Syne (from their CD The Winnowing) plays a starring role in the 2008 movie of Sex in the City. Check out their other CDs - Greengold.

    Mairi Campbell –voice, viola, fiddle
    Dave Francis-guitar, voice

    Media Reviews

Mairi Campbell's voice is one of the great sounds of Scottish folk music today

It would be possible to review this CD by Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis in one word - BRILLIANT

an intimate and warm collection of songs and tunes, variously playful, poetic and socially aware.

A regal grace pervades their work and eye for creating moods and melodic textures remains their ace card. Colours of Lichen is a relaxed masterwork.

A gentle, charming album. The material is well chosen and skilfully arranged. An attractively balanced and well crafted set by a class act.
