    Chi Min Tir

    by Iain Angus MacLeod
    Bookmark and Share

There are schottisches, reels, jigs, marches and waltzes. The reels, a good test, are played with maturity, that is to say without rushing, every note clear as a bell. Particularly noteworthy is Iain Angus MacLeod’s playing of the very difficult pipe reel, The Little Cascade, by George S MacLennan. The Harris teenager is a fan of Blair Douglas and plays his lovely Kate Martin’s Waltz with feeling. The title of the album, Chi Mi’n Tir, is also the name of a lovely Gaelic song to be found on one of the tracks. It is sung in some style by Iain MacIver, a member of the band, and a prominent conductor of choirs at the recent National Mod in Dunoon. Another band member, Ally K MacPherson, plays a selection on the pipes, demonstrating that this is the kind of band you need at ceilidhs, providing a full concert party from within their own ranks.
