Kris Drever’s brand new CD ‘Black Water’ is a truly scintillating piece of work. This man is a very fine singer indeed. He has a voice which conveys honesty and conviction and there’s immediate interest for the listener in his arrangements and phrasing of the songs. Edinburgh composer guitarist Sandy Wright wrote the title track and his ‘Beads and Feathers’ also features – two beauties! Lovely versions of the traditional ‘Green Grow the Laurels’ and the soulful blues ‘Fause Fause’, Kris is also an excellent and inventive guitarist and he is joined by a stellar cast of musical friends in the shape of Kate Rusby, Eddi Reader, Ian Carr, Andy Cutting, Roddy Woombal, Andy Seward, Roy Dodds and Ewan Vernal on this his first solo outing which was produced by John McCusker. A rich and rewarding listen and a possible contender for Album of the Year.

One of the best buys I've made all year Barry Hickey
Great voice, phrasing, lyrics and arrangement. I defy anyone not to be totally taken by this album; I've only had it for four days and know the words to most of the songs: not a claim that I can make about many recordings. Get it!

Having seen Kris supporting Eddi Reader I just had to buy his CD immediately. His voice wraps round you like a warm blanket. Don't miss this one!
