The latest CD from Kirkwall City Pipe Band is Anthems of Peedie Nation. The music is drawn from their successful concerts “Distilled” and “Anthems of a Peedie Nation” and features a variety of traditional musical styles, including some well known songs and reflects the broad background of their players. The use of backing instruments adds energy and emotion to the music.
“Peedie” is an Orkney word meaning small. There is a parallel between Orkney being a small part of Scotland, and Scotland being a small part of the world. Much of the music falls into the "anthems" category from both Orkney and Scotland.
