    Andy Thorburn: Piano

    by Andy Thorburn
    Bookmark and Share

Andy is one of the most sought after musicians in Scotland. He has over the years worked with bands such as Blazin Fiddles,Mouth Music, Ceolbeg, The Ghillies, The Peatbog Faeries, The Scottish Step Dance Company and the Songhunter project. He is also sought after as a composer, teacher and producer. This album features Andy playing mainly his own compositions (except for a very nice arrangement of 'Mrs Jamieson's Favourite' written by Charles Grant.) Includes 'Marni Swanson of the Grey Coast',  a beautiful slow air which was included in the Nineties Collection [CD & Book] of newly composed tunes -  it has become incredibly popular throughout Scotland in recent times.

    Media Reviews

his uniquely beautiful ‘Marni Swanson of the Grey Coast’ leads on to another 10 of his own absorbing solo piano compositions, ranging from windswept melancholy to barrelhouse R&B à la Dr John

The ubiquitous keyboard man, Thorburn has played with everyone - or is just about to. Blues, rockabilly, salsa, classical, folk and experimental, it’s all just music to the widely travelled Englishman who has over the past two decades made Scotland his home. Although he currently holds the piano chair in Blazin’ Fiddles, he still finds time to compose, often for live theatre.

Here, his uniquely beautiful ‘Marni Swanson of the Grey Coast’ leads on to another 10 of his own absorbing solo piano compositions, ranging from windswept melancholy to barrelhouse R&B à la Dr John, recorded on a classic Steinway in the remote Highland fastness of Ackergill Tower.
