    An Island Heritage

    by Iain McLachlan
    Bookmark and Share

Iain McLachlan's music comes as fresh as the sea breezes wafting over the Uist machair - Highland and Gaelic as his island heritage. Iain, from Benbecula in the Western Isles, is best known as an accordionist and composer of The Dark Island , but on this recording he also plays fiddle and melodeon, and is joined by Calum Iain MacCorquodale of Bayhead, North Uist on accordion and fiddle and by Calum Campbell of Balivanich on goose and jaws harp. The album opens with a trio set of march, strathspey and reel starting with  Donald MacLean's Farewell to Oban. Other tracks include fiddle solo  Cameron's Got his Wife Again; a melodeon solo  Mrs MacLeod of Raasay; Iain's own tune The Dark Island; an accordion and jaw's harp duet  Feileadh Beag a B'fhearr Leam (I Prefer the Kilt) and a superb set of pipe reels on accordion and goose, The Piper of Drummond.

I'm not one for agreeing with the media but on this, they have it spot on. A beautiful album.
