This CD featuring North east singer & fiddler Tom Spiers is a fine addition to the Tradition Bearers 'Scots Songs and Ballads' series. Recorded in 2001, the tracks are of traditional ballads and lyric songs, bothy items, cornkisters and more. Roughly half the songs are delivered unaccompanied and Tom's rich yet mellow voice is just great. The remainder he sings to his own fiddle accompaniment - an unusual accomplishment, almost unknown in Scotland. A little gem.
