Da Fustra is a name to conjure with in the Northern Isles and points south; their latest release, A Shetland Dance, ably demonstrates why. This lively collection of toe-tapping traditional and not so trad numbers is a delight from start to finish - and takes in a few surprises along the way, such as a Mississippi Dip to "Chinatown, My Chinatown", possibly indicating the multi-cultural - dare one say "harmonious" - character of the contemporary dance music scene.
Incidentally, for the non-armchair fans of Caledonian and/or Norse terpsichorean arts, directions for the Shetland Quadrilles (tracks 7-12 inclusive) are available from the publishers. From the verve, good humour and sheer ebullience of Da Fustra's playing, I'd lay odds it would be worth it.
