The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Highlands

The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Highlands: A collection of 32 Gaelic songs (with English translations)  arranged for voice and piano accompaniment.

This is a splendid song book from the early years of the 20th century. It is of particular importance because it provides the lyrics for all the songs in both English and Gaelic plus musical notation for full piano accompaniment.  Songs include Mo run geal, dileas (My faithful fond one), Mo Dhachaidh (My Ain Hoose), Mairi bhan og (Fair Young Mary), Soraidh slan le Fionnairidh (Farewell to Fiunary).

    The Songs
The Islay Maiden; Allan, Laird o' Moidart; Turn ye to Me; A Fairy lullaby; My Love of Early Days; The Dark, Black Haired Youth; The Isle of Mull; The Mist-covered Mountains of Home; The Cuckoo of the Grove; The Misty Dell; Colin's Cattle' Cruachan Ben; A Melody of Love; O, my Boatman, I Mourn the Highlands, Brown Haired Maiden; Health and Joy be with You; Tocherless Lass, A Boat Song; Fair Young Mary; My Pretty Mary; Winsome Mary; Lassie o' the Witchin' E'e; The Sailor Laddie; My Ain Hoose; Praise of Islay; Ho-ro My Nut Brown Maiden; My faithful fond one; Lassie wi the Gowden Hair; Farewell; Farewell to Fiunary, O, the Thistle of Scotland.

The Minstrelsy of the Scottish Highlands (edited and arranged by Alfred Moffat) was originally an imprint of Glasgow publishing company Bayley & Ferguson. The company was eventually incorporated into Kerr's along with Mozart Allan and Thistle Records.
