This is Paul Anderson’s first printed collection of self-penned tunes, which has taken him the last ten years to compile. The tunes are of varying tempos and all have been inspired by someone or something. This spiral bound copy has 86 pages and is packed with the history of the tunes, mixed in with some great photos as well – a sort of picture story of Paul’s life to date.
I have had a rattle through the compositions and there are some lovely tunes here, which lie well on the fiddle and have a bit of flow to them. It is also good to see a composer who is not a pipe tune composer putting jigs into 9/8, 12/8 timings and not the normal 6/8s. We also get some beautiful slow airs with a deep melancholic feel to them, which you can put a lot of expression into.
Some of the compositions in this book can be heard on Paul’s latest CD Granite.
A refreshing collection of new tunes from a modern day musician and composer which I am sure will stand the test of time along with the greats of the past.
