    Notes Frae Ma Heid (book)

    by Chris Armstrong

Chris Armstrong is a young piper who, in a short space of time, has progressed through a solid background in pipe bands and a period in the folk scene to establish himself as a major force in the very top level of competitive solo piping in the world.

His playing style is dynamic and exciting with major emphasis being placed on clarity and accuracy of fingering. He displays a high level of  musicianship in everything that he plays and it comes as no surprise, therefore, that he has compiled this collection of music - all of which features his own compositions.

It is an interesting and varied collection of tunes which is documented in a logical, ascending fashion ranging from Slow Airs and Waltzes at the beginning of the book to Reels, Hornpipes, Jigs and miscellaneous tunes at the end of the collection. Reflected within the the compositions are freshness and originality along with  sound melodic structure. In addition, Chris has catered for pipers at all levels by introducing varying degrees of technical difficulty within each of the tune types..............There is plenty in this section to satisfy those with "electric" fingers and the Jigs are full of fun and drive.....
