Maw Broons But An Ben Cookbook

Maw Broon's But An' Ben Cookbook  - 'A Cookbook for every season using all the goodness of the land '

Launched in 1936 in the "Sunday Post" in Scotland, The Broons are undoubtedly Scotland's first family - the Nation's favourites - with a readership covering all generations. The strip is still hugely popular with the Sunday Post's million readers every week.

Following on from the award-winning "Maw Broon's Cookbook" here we have in 'Maw Broon's But An' Ben Cookbook', an entirely different collection of recipes - a reproduction of the actual book borrowed from The Broons' "hame fae hame" - the "wee hoose among the heather" that Maw always wanted. These are the very recipes gathered over the years that have become the favourites  of the whole family - Maw and Paw, Granpaw, Daphne, Horace, Joe, Maggie, Hen, The Twins and The Bairn - when they escape from the town to visit the Bun an' Ben for holidays and weekends. We've left the bits and pieces that we found tucked into the cookbook exactly as we found them - the seed packet the Auchentogle bus timetable, and all the rest - stains and all.

Traditional cooking with organic nutritious ingredients, as well as some good old-fashioned full-fat favourites. Great for busy folks too! Gardening tips and recipes for home-grown produce from Granpaw's vegetable patch. Recipes for picnic food, for Jams preserves, home-made wines and cordials, not least a recipe for Maw's famous 'winter whisky marmalade'.

Peppered with cartoon strips, hints and tips from Maw and much else, Maw Broon's But An' Ben Cookbook has it all - happy, peaceful carefree days at the but an' ben.

....and really, Delia, with ingredients as good as these and recipes so simple and tasty, as Maw says: "There's nae need tae cheat!"

    Format: Hardcover 192 pages.
