A Richt Cuddy and Ither Fables (book)

A Richt Cuddy and Ither Fables  - Scots Fables for Children
    William J. Rae

These fourteen animal fables and one short play use Scots in its fullest and most colourful sense, with the special aim of introducing the language to children.

Do you have a resident rodent in your house? You will feel so much more comfortable after reading about Hector the wee, wee mousie and his friends! Hamish the hirplin hare, Ogilvy the daftie owl, and the three gleg craiturs have their own special stories to relate, along with many other enchanting animals, including Flip the puddock, Callum the cushie-doo and Melvin the midgie!

Scots is a rich, descriptive language, full of feeling and detail. The fourteen fables and one playlet included in this volume use Scots in its fullest and most colourful sense, with the particular aim of introducing it in its written form to children who can already read. All the tales charmingly convey their own message with the use of traditional storytelling methods.

    Ages 5+  80 pages. William J.  Rae

    Media Reviews

If you are a Scot, or have Scottish ancestry, this book is one you really ought to seek out.'

'I would sincerely hope that both teachers and parents will be sufficiently motivated to read A Richt Cuddy to the children in their care. The older children, with better established English reading skills should be positively encouraged to have a go themselves. If you are a Scot, or have Scottish ancestry, this book is one you really ought to seek out.'
