A Jacobite Anthology
A History of the 1745 Rising ( published by The 1745 Association to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the 1745 Rising) Anne Scholey (ed.)
This handy guide to the Jacobite Risings was published to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the landing of a Prince and seven followers on the far North of Scotland. The Prince was none other than Bonnie Prince Charlie and in the 18 months following his landing, he and many of the Clans nearly changed British history.
His was a romantic venture which has no parallel in Great Britain since the the landing of William the Conqueror (although he was accompanied by a strong Norman army). The search for Bonnie Prince Charlie after the Battle of Culloden and his escape are the stuff of legend, of loyalty and of love, commemorated in song, in writing and the collecting of anything associated with him.
This anthology of Jacobite articles provides a real insight into the period and are a pleasure to read.
The 1747 Association was formed in 1945 and is still going strong. Members include patrons, the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Perth and Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel.
