    Trip to Scotland

by Hamish MacGregor and the Blue Bonnets

In deciding to link the album to Scottish place names, Tartan Tapes then had to do their homework and find the tunes. And what good a good job they have made of it! They have included not only the more famous ones such  as The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, Skye Boat Song and Dark Lochnagar, but also wonderful offerings like the stately strathspey Stirling Castle and  the plaintive air Pennan Den.  There is a  fabulous foot stompin’ set of three reels from Shetland and the very perky Kelso Races and Hodom Castle played in infectious jigtime. There are traditional  tunes named for Glasgow, Inverness, Perth and many more – and all played so beautifully on various instruments such as fiddle, whistles, concertina, bagpipes. This Trip to Scotland is more than just a musical visit to the usual beauty spots but an intriguing  glimpse of unknown places.
