In the early '80s, Captain Simon Fraser's famous 1816 Collection, The Airs and Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and the Isles was reproduced in Cape Breton. At that time, a three hour recording was issued. Subsequently, this rekindled some interest in the music. This CD has been recompiled from those 1982 sessions.
Check out The Captain’s Collection CD a tribute to music collector Captain Simon Fraser of Knockie featuring the musical repertoire of a play of the same name. Gaelic singing, piping and fiddling, the musicians "reunite the Gaelic words with the tunes, presenting the music in a range of styles in the hope that his [Fraser's] music can be played and enjoyed by others." The CD was produced by Jonny Hardie and featured Brian MacAlpine (piano, keyboards), Jonny Hardie (fiddle), Alyth McCormack (vocals), Rory Campbell (pipes, whistles, vocals), Aidan O'Rourke (fiddle) and Eilidh Martin (cello).
