This CD is a fitting tribute to one of Shetland's finest and best loved musicians, the late Gordon Jamieson from Yell. Gordon's talent as a musician and composer, in the Shetland, Scottish and Norwegian modes, was extensive, much admired and a fitting memorial for future generations. This CD which features names such as the Cullivoe Dance Band, Da Fustra, the Alan Nicolson Dance Band, James Leask, David Halcrow, Violet Tulloch turn the album into a veritable who's who of Shetland Dance Music.
Appropriately the first dance on the CD is a Boston two-step and played by Gordon's own Cullivoe Band, now led by Ivor Scollay. This driving dance band sets the tone and highlights Gordon's natural skill as a composer. The opening tune reflects the happy-go-lucky, irrepressible nature of both the band and the composer.
The final four tracks of this 18 track CD feature The Cullivoe Band from 1978-79 in live performance with Gordon Jamieson, Anne Jamieson and Victor Jamieson joined by Jim Halcrow and Douglas Johnstone.
