Scotland’s favourite duo release another album full of Phil’s appealingly sweet tunes. Aly’s lush touch can can also be felt – especially on the airs and waltzes, of which there are some gorgeously played ones, including the previously unrecorded ‘The Gentle Light That Wakes Me’ and ‘ A Bright Star In Cepheus’, dedicated to the memory of his fiddler brother johnny. With guest musicians on guitar and bodhran, plus Phil’s skill on half a dozen other instruments, they can produce a big toe-tapping band sound, but the album always winds back to basics, and the remarkable empathy between two great masters pf the fiddle and accordion.............Norman Chalmers
