    Spencie's Tunes (Book)

    by Steven Spence

This book, transcribed by John Laughland,  is for anyone who can play a bit and wants to learn some great fiddle tunes. All 37 tunes were written by Steven Spence, a fantastic Shetland fiddler from Unst and you can hear him play them in his own style on the CD Spencie's Tunes also available on this website. The book is a humorous one with cartoons, photographs and stories about the tunes included.
John has also included guitar chords on the manuscript in small boxes showing the top of a guitar neck with strings and finger positions.  The chords are the same as played on the CD and we believe this is the first time this has been done

I can't think of a more appealing tune book. Steven Spence has bundled 37 of his Shetland fiddle compositions into a colourful and fun-filled publication to provide any musician with dozens of excellent melodies and hours of entertainment. Photos, cartoons, a health warning, and even a ghost story: this book has everything. A 90-page open-flat A4 softback, Spencie's Tunes will fit in most fiddle cases and sits majestically on music stands or bar stools.
Steven is a fiddler from Unst, the most northerly inhabited island in Shetland. His tunes suit most melody instruments, and they're annotated with John Laughland's chords for a simple but effective arrangement.....Alex Monaghan for FolkWorld...http://www.folkworld.de/30/e/cds4.html#spen

Steve has enriched the shelves of my home library was yet another one of his excellent works. To be smoothed over with his haunting tunes and general humour is yet to found amongst the pages of the book. The cd is worth every penny, including the postage & packing as it cannot yet be found in main stream shops, even in Unist!
