Heard this lecture this morning. Fascinating. You can here it again:
Pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim delivers this year's Reith Lectures. 2/5. In the Beginning Was Sound: He launches his own campaign against muzak.

| I listened to today's 'lecture' having heard the first meagre effort last week. No better, I'm afraid. As a piece of light entertainment it was fine; as a serious attempt at a Reith lecture it was poor stuff. It seemed so spontaneous that he might have been making it up as he went along. His anecdotes were engaging but the 'meat' of the lecture was hardly more than thin connective tissue. Not that I don't agree with his anti-muzak rant, but Reith Lectures shouldn't be dumbed down to this level. |

| The whole point of the Reith lectures is that the subject matter be rendered accesible, the whole educating the masses thing. I think it did just that. |
