Auchtermuchty Traditional Music Weekend

The Auchtermuchty Festival is nearly here and now in its 32nd year, looks to be as good as ever. The Traditional Music Weekend this year runs from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August and promises to be a great weekend with yet another great line-up of guests to entertain you. We have pipers, fiddlers, box players as well as some of the finest singers in the country. As well as this, we have lined up some excellent concerts, ceilidhs and workshops to keep you amused and informed.

Our guests this year include Paul Anderson & Shona Donaldson, Jimmy Hutchison, Carol Anderson & Martin MacDonald, Sheila Stewart, Jock Duncan, The Bainbridges, Hamish Moore, Ken Campbell & Linsey Aitken, Sheila Kinninmonth and Hector Riddell.

As well as our invited guests, there will also be the chance for visiting singers and musicians to take to the Open Stage on Saturday afternoon and get involved in some of the informal sessions at various venues throughout the weekend. Come along with a song or tune or just sit back and listen to some great music.

Saturday also starts with the singing and instrumental competitions which we greatly encourage you to come along and either take part in or sit back and listen to. Taking part allows you to add something to the festival and is always worth the feedback that you get from the adjudicators. And it’s just great fun too!

Our dance bands are all old friends of the festival with Alan Small and the Lomond Ceilidh Band at the Bowling Club on Friday night. Saturday night sees Jim Broon and Friends at the same venue and Michael Philip and Conundrum play at the Victoria Hall. The Grand Open Air Dance on Sunday afternoon sees the Gary Sutherland Band taking the Stage for a final fling. Plenty of chances to kick up your heels to some great bands!

We have an extra special weekend as Sheila Stewart has decided to retire from singing and we feel very honoured that she has chosen Muchty to be her last public appearance. As well as the evening concerts, Sheila will also be taking our popular storytelling event, the Tannochbrae Blether, at the Tannochbrae Tearooms on Sunday morning and will finish off the afternoon concert in the Church Hall in the afternoon. Don’t miss a chance to hear her.

We usually finish off the festival with the Farewell Singaround in the Church Hall but this year will be very special, marking Sheila Stewart's last singing engagement, where festival guests and many additional visiting singers will join in to make sure we all give a memorable and no doubt moving send-off to this remarkable singer. While this concert marks the official end to the weekend, informal sessions will continue throughout the rest of the day and often evening too!

Please visit our website www.auchtermuchty-festival.org.uk for more detailed information or contact Eric on 01337 860482. Tickets can be bought from the Festival Office, from Eric or via our website.

All that is left is for you to come along and enjoy yourselves. We look forward to seeing you!

N.B. We would like to apologise to anyone who has tried to contact us via the website. We are experiencing difficulties with the programming and are currently unable to receive any emails either through our enquiries page, or through the New Song Competition form. Also, our on-line ticket sales aren't working which isn't great either. So much for technology eh?! We are working to get this fixed and I will post when things are up and running again.

In the meantime, if anyone has any queries, please post here and I will reply as promptly as I can. Or contact us on our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/MuchtyFestival

Many thanks for your patience.

From the Auchtermuchty Festival Committee

Is the traditional music weekend definitely Fri 10th to Sun 12th? Being directed to the Facebook page, a post was answered by saying that the campsites will be available from Fri19th Aug. Also, under what appeared to be a heading of "Community Organisation",the dates of Fri13th to Sun 15th were mentioned, dates which don't exist this year!

old Pop - it is very definitely Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August.

I know there have been problems with the website, so this may account for some of the confusion.

Hi old Pop
The traditional music weekend is definitely 10th to the 12th August this year! Sorry for the confusion. I found the post on our facebook site and don't know why they put 19th. Think it was just a typo and they pressed 9 instead of 0.
Hope that makes sense now!
I couldn't find the dates on the community page saying 13th to 15th. Can you send me the link please and I'll get it changed? Thanks

Hope it all goes well.

Any up to date info re sessions? I heard that The Boar's Head aka Forresters was closed but it still seems to be mentioned in the programme.

Thanks JAJ!

As far as I know, The Boars Head/Forrest Hills is still open but it is the Royal that has closed again. It was only open for about a year, I'm not sure what has happened with them.

We aren't running any official sessions at the Forrest Hills, a long story, but as people will inevitably remember it as a venue from years ago and head there looking for sessions, we have still included it in the programme. People are welcome to head there with instruments and songs and just do their own thing.

The main sessions that we have are Friday and Saturday nights in the Upper Town Hall, Saturday day time usually has sessions in The Cycle, and Sunday's main session starts at 12.30pm in the Community Centre. Around that people are welcome to start up a session where they like!

Hi ErikaC, I saw the dates 13th to 15th when I went into the link that you posted to your facebook page, on 24 Jul at 2212. It's on the left side of the page, under a com/organisation heading.

Haven't bought advance tickets as I've been away all week. Hoped to get them at Box Office on arrival, but could try online tonight if need be.
Could you please remind us what time the first concert starts - and the last event of the weekend finishes, please? Can't find that on the website.

TB - hope this works:

Top of list of upcoming events states farewell session is from 15.00 to 17.30, although I suspect in the circumstances it will go on for considerably long than that!

Hi Tattie Bogle
Here is the weekend programme in cronological order:

http://www.auchtermuchty-festival.org.uk/Upload/music/Auchtermuchty%20TM%20Weekend%20Programme.pdf

Hopefully that will take you straight to the listings.
The Friday night ceilidh is pretty much sold out as far as I know but we still have tickets left for most other events. You can either order them online or get them when you arrive today.
You're right Portree, I suspect that the two and a half hours will come in all too quickly on Sunday so we'll just play it by ear and see how it goes :)
Forecast is to be fair this weekend, we can only hope! What a difference the sunshine makes!
See you all soon :)

I really enjoyed it and thanks for the opporchancity Erica . I was dissapinted that there werenae a lot of entries in the Bothy Ballad or Traditional Singing comps but the audience responded favourably , met my mate from Cardenden again [ apparently I'm his best pal ] ? see u next year
