Some of the best singers in gaeldom are coming together next week to raise money to aid the relief efforts in Haiti. A concert is being staged in Glasgow on Saturday 30th January and will feature numerous Gold medal-winning performers.

Plans are still quite fluid, but the spectacular line-up should include: James Graham, Lindsey Mitchell, Rhona Morrison, Seumas Campbell, Sineag MacIntyre, Kirsteen Grant, Mary Ann Kennedy, Mary Maclean, Lyle Kennedy, Alastair Macathur, Donald M Macinnes and Kenna Campbell.

The venue, timing and other details are still to be finalised, and will be posted on here ASAP.

Please drop me a line - bruce@celticmusicradio.net - we'd be pleased to publicise it, and perhaps record/broadcast.

Bruce.

Great stuff Donnie, well done. Does that mean it'll clash with CC gigs? I'm meant to be at the Bevvy Sisters that night and don't really want to miss it....

What about an all day singathon?!

I'd happily miss a Celtic Connections gig for this! I think it is going to be tremendous, as Maroot would say.

This is a great initiative -any chance of a live recording for posterity if rights could be sorted out? I think there will be scope for further events of this nature over this year given the absence of infrastructure within the country and the longterm challenges

Fantastic initiative!

You should get lots of help and support from all quarters for this very worthwhile cause, from footstompers among others, I am sure.

Just had confirmation that we've managed to book the Glasgow Gaelic School on Berkeley Street for the concert.

Big thanks to DJ "Saggy" Smith for his help on that one.

Excellent idea!

I hope the supplies distribution gets quicker very soon.
Terrible Sad situation.

It has to be said though, that these very countries who do not want to live like us, i.e. in a law abiding democracy, which includes Health & Safety, (Building Control), call for our help only at troubled times.
Example the Iranian earthquake, despite all we gave it changed nothing in the east/west relationship whatsoever.
Yes we should give regardless; however, will this change the politics of the country long term?
No.

Oilrig are there no end to your talents! Comedy also?

“One of those nights when I'm happy to say maroots are showing!”

Smashing in-joke there which some may not pick up on, more is the pity.

It's shaping up to be a great night on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it now.

Donnie, is the time and ticket price finalised?

Yes, the details are pretty much finalised now.

The concert will kick off at 7.30pm this Saturday, and tickets will be £10.

Norman Macarthur, Darren Maclean, Kirsteen Macdonald and Mary Macmillan are yet more fantastic additions to the line-up.

Thanks to everyone for their help and support - it is hugely appreciated!

It sounds like a great idea and a wonderful opportunity - though one I personally can't take up as nowhere near there at the weekend.
Bruce - is it clear yet whether Celtic Music Radio can record it? Or broadcast it live?
Details would be very much appreciated.

Don't think we can broadcast it live, for logistical reasons - most of our outside broadcast kit will be tied up in the concert hall that weekend - but if it can be recorded, that would be great. I've also heard that there may be some BBC interest.

I believe domhnall M is hoping to join Mark Sheridan for a chat about the event, on celtic music radio around 12.00 on Wednesday. That would be just before the "Mary's Meals" Haiti discussion, with Iain Anderson, Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow, Jack McConnell and Duncan Bannatyne.

boula2 - "Yes we should give regardless; however, will this change the politics of the country long term?"

To achieve that you need to hurl cluster bombs at the populace before invading in Abrams tanks.

Suppose some countries prefer to take their chances with earthquakes.
