Posted: 06-Jun-2011 08:56 We had the New Rope Stringband playing for us in Kilbarchan last night and many who attended have sore cheek muscles this morning from smiling all night long. Great show - these guys deserve to be household names. |

Posted: 24-Jun-2012 20:25 They play The Famous Spiegeltent (Aug 6 to 12) with an early 5pm show. Can't think of a better way to start a night out at Edinburgh Fringe, except, it will be a hard act to follow so everything else might seem flat by comparison. I see they are doing a special "family" ticket deal - what a great idea. Tickets: 0844 693 3008. |

Posted: 24-Jun-2012 21:50 ...and coincidentally, Rob Adams has today recommended them as one of his Fringe highlights: http://www.robadamsjournalist.com/news.asp |

Posted: 24-Jun-2012 22:32 The New Rope String Band are appearing 'live' onstage at the legendary Mountain Stage event in Virginia this very evening, alongside Ray Wylie Hubbard, Dar Williams, Arthur Alligood and The DBs: http://www.mountainstage.org/mtnstage.aspx |

Posted: 28-Jul-2012 23:44 I was in email contact with a friend in Finland tonight who said these guys have just toured over there and raised the spirits of her countrymen and women dramatically! |

Posted: 29-Jul-2012 12:34 There's a squad heading through from Kilbarchan by minibus. Still voted "the best night out ever" by many of the regulars at our music events. |

Posted: 29-Jul-2012 19:29 We were watching their dvd just the other night. Agree with original post that it's a complete mystery why they haven't had exposure on British TV. Pure fun, loads of side-splitting laughs, clever routines and something that can be enjoyed by all ages. They should go down a storm ay The Fringe. |

Posted: 05-Aug-2012 22:40 I was speaking to Jock Tyldesley today and he was saying they had been rehearsing some new routines for the Fringe show at the Famous Spiegeltent. Can't wait to see them in action tomorrow. |

Posted: 06-Aug-2012 11:19 Great stuff, Mandobass - we heard about the new material too and it's sounding just as hilarious as we expected. A lot of folk will have aching cheek muscles in Edinburgh this week. Wishing Jock, Tim and Pete good luck for tonight's opener and best wishes for a successful run. |

Posted: 06-Aug-2012 13:50 This was just posted on Facebook by Josh of The Hot Seats, who, of course, were winners of a prized Herald Angel when they had a hugely-successful run at The Famous Spiegeltent during the Fringe: "Hey there all friends within a few hours of Edinburgh, we implore you to go to the best venue on Earth and see one of the most entertaining bands ever!" |

Posted: 06-Aug-2012 15:31 Another great comment from American painter, Annie Campbell Belcher (of course the New Rope String Band have played dates in USA on many occasions): "People have been known to drive 4 hours to another state to see them!...." |

Posted: 06-Aug-2012 15:42 Another great comment from Dundee worthy, Agnes Muggie Sha' Belcher (of course the New Rope String Band have played dates in Tayside on many occasions) "People have been known to dry out for 4 hours from a drunken state to see them!...." |

Posted: 08-Aug-2012 08:34 Nice review in The Herald: There's a challenge at the heart of the New Rope String Band's late-afternoon show where our three heroes perform a previously little-known morris dance and order the audience not to laugh because it's rude to make fun of other people's culture. |

Posted: 08-Aug-2012 20:48 Yes, Jim has always had a nose for the good stuff. He liked Woody Pines too and when they played the new Leith Folk Club venue, he had another big smile on his face thanks to the crowd that turned out. Yes, I know, EFC got there first. |
