Changes
As the leaves start to change and autumn sets in, new changes are afoot with the Blazers. After 12 years and being one of the founder members of Blazin’ Fiddles, Catriona Macdonald has decided to leave the band. It wasn’t an easy decision for Catriona, but was sparked by an urge to pursue other musical projects, along with her increased responsibilities as the Degree Programme Director for the Folk Degree Course at Newcastle University. As a long time member of Blazin’ Fiddles she will be missed for her musical flair and “keeping the boys in line”. "Right from the very first idea for Blazin’ Fiddles, Catriona was top of the list." says fellow band member Bruce, "She's a great ambassador for Shetland music and we will greatly miss her. We all wish her the very best for all her musical projects, and we are certain we'll be working with her on future projects."

Catriona's final Blazers concert will be at at Blazin’ in Beauly next month, which will be an appropriate time for a big send off. No doubt she will show up on your music venue doorsteps soon either solo, with her trio or with the String Sisters. "It's been a blast, and I wish the Blazers every success in the coming years." says Catriona.

The band are pleased to announce that Jenna Reid will be filling the sparklie
red shoes. Jenna, also a Shetland fiddler, will be known for “Best Up and Coming
Artist” at the 2005 Scots Trad Music Awards and for her work with Transatlantic
Sessions. She has also toured extensively with Filska, Deaf Shepherd and Dochas.
Taking the plunge right away, she’ll get her baptism by fire during the Blazin’
Fiddles England tour in November.

New album
The new album is in the works. The band have had their first session of recording at Iain Macfarlane’s Glenfinnan recording studio and they hope to complete the recording of all the tracks in the next month. Finding the title Is always the challenge, but inevitably something clever will emerge. Watch out for the new album in time for their Scottish tour dates at the end of March and their England and Wa
