On Friday 29th October at 7.30pm, Mairi Campbell will give a talk to the Gaelic Society of Inverness at the Netley Centre, Bishop's Road, Inverness. The talk she will be giving on Friday will explore the topic of 'Making Traditional Music Meaningful in modern life'. With personal stories of her life in music and looking at the bigger picture of the growth in interest in the last twenty years in Scotland, with songs and tunes to accompany.

Mairi Campbell is a Scottish singer and musician, born and raised in Edinburgh Together with partner Dave Francis she forms traditional music group The Cast. Mairi is also the musical director of Sangstream, a folk song choir based in Edinburgh. On top of this, she is taking part in several other musical projects, such as playing viola with different ensembles and teaching the fiddle.
Mairi has been much praised for her singing voice and musical skills, and has won several prizes. During the Scots trad music awards in 2007 she was named Scots Singer of the Year, and in 2008 she won the Live Ireland Music Award for Best Female Musician of the Year, as well as the award for Best Composition of the Year.

Sadly, I won't make it to Mairi's talk this week, though I would very much have liked to hear it. I'm hoping to make it to Bill Innes's talk on Donald Sinclair and Donald MacIntyre on 5 November, if that's still on.

Hi there, yes Bill's talk is on Friday 5th November, about Donald Sinclair (Barra) and Donald MacIntyre (Dòmhnall Ruadh Phàislig, South Uist). "An illustrated talk of two linked 20th century traditional masterworks".
