2011 ST MUNGO FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE ‘MUNGO’S BAIRNS’ The festival began in 2010, with the aim of establishing an annual event promoting the city’s heritage within the framework of Celtic culture.

Performances and events at the festival will take place at a variety of venues across Glasgow. Some of the headline names include The Ideal Band, Maggie MacInnes and Adam McNaughtan is coming out of retirement for a special multicultural gala concert taking place on 8 January at St Andrews in the Square..

Other performances and events include the Jimmy McHugh memorial concert, and one particular highlight will be a unique collaboration between the AKAYA African drummers and the Neilston Pipe Band pipers.

Bailie Catherine McMaster said: “The St Mungo Festival is a fantastic celebration of all the musical and dance traditions of Glasgow and of all of ‘Mungo’s Bairns’. The 2011 festival has a tremendous programme, with something for people of all ages and interests. I would like to say that we are very honoured that the McHugh family have agreed that the Jimmy McHugh memorial concert can form part of the festival.”
