Having had the welcoming parade in Edinburgh after the Beijing Games, not everyone has quite such a jaundiced view of Glasgow hosting this one (having hosted Olympic events itself, after all).

Does this not show that we do not wish to follow the example of England where there is the egocentric promotion of London as the only city of any importance?

London has been "created" as a principal world city at the expense of virtually the whole of the rest of the UK. I'm quite sure that even St George could agree with that.

Glasgow and the West of Scotland has already had more than its fair share of media spotlight(whether favourable or otherwise) over the years on BBC Scotland, the newspaper press, and Strathclyde Television.

Many times when I've been abroad on holiday, people will refuse to believe I'm Scottish because I don't have a Weegie accent.
